Tobacco Free

Communicating the Policy

How the Policy Will Be Communicated

A full awareness and education campaign will help roll out the new campus smoking/tobacco policy. Components of the plan include:

  • Notification about the policy to current students, staff and faculty through a variety of outlets, including print and online.
  • Notification about the policy to prospective students during the admission and enrollment process.
  • Notification about the policy to prospective faculty and staff during hiring orientation.
  • Informational meetings, postings, and electronic notifications.
  • Tobacco cessation programming for students and employees.
  • Posted notices with the international "No Smoking" symbol and the message "The UC is Tobacco Free." Signage will be posted at major vehicular crossways, pedestrian crosswalks, and building entrances.
  • Informing organizers and attendees at public events, such as conferences, meetings, public lectures, social events, cultural events, and sporting events using university facilities of the policy.
  • Informing individuals residing in university-owned properties.
  • Sharing the policy with neighbors, local businesses, and others residing, working, or visiting in the surrounding communities.
